Bruce Mace (Canyon Wren)

Bruce Mace (Canyon Wren)

Born on the Trinity River in northern California to a 3rd generation Forest Service family… feet wet, fly rod in hand - Bruce has grown up and through a career in Architecture and Healthcare, now successfully retired to pursue passions. During that time, the outdoors DNA somehow drove the bus and he now finds himself with more than a quarter-century chasing steelhead, whitewater, mountains, oars and rivers… shared with family and friends shouting support!

Bruce fell in love with the Wood River Valley way back in the day - ending up with a place in Sun Valley, Idaho and now spends most of his time with his wife and sharing those experiences with anyone who wants to head out into the wilderness! Guiding multi-day raft adventures for steelhead, coaching high-school NICA mountain biking, Mountain Humane Society “Dog Team” and going on 5 years as a Suicide Prevention crisis intervention counselor - “none of us are alone”.

If it involves multi-day mountains on a raft fly-fishing: this is the "happy place" and the Grande Ronde has more than fit the bill since 2008. There is nowhere he’d rather be than the upper wilderness section, chasing fish and communing with the wildlife that inhabits this beautiful canyon. Throw in a couple friends and a trusted dog - you’ve got heaven, with a Canyon Wren in the background.
